Materials:

• M/N 9.0mm crochet hook
• 2 skeins Lion Brand Homespun
• Tapestry needle

Special Stitches:

• FPDC (front-post double crochet): Yarn over, insert hook behind post of stitch (from front to back), yarn over, pull through, bring up even with last stitch completed, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, (2 loops on hook), yarn over again, pull through remaining 2 loops to complete.
• BPDC (back-post double crochet): Yarn over, insert hook in front of post of stitch (from back to front), yarn over, pull through, bring up even with last stitch completed, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, (2 loops on hook), yarn over again, pull through remaining 2 loops to complete.

Notes:

• Ch 3 counts as first double crochet.
• Scarf will curl in on itself as it progresses. It is supposed to do this to achieve the fluted column look.

Instructions:

Ch 28
Row 1 (right side): DC in 4^th ch from hk, dc across, turn (25 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3, bpdc across to next-to-last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn

Row 3: Ch 3, fbdc across to next-to-last st, dc in top of ch 3, turn

Rep rows 2 & 3 until desired length or both skeins of yarn are used.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

Gauge:
4 rows = 2 inches,  4 stitches = 1 inch
Gauge is not crucial but is helpful.

Instructions:
Lower cuff:
Ch 30, join with ss in 1st chain to form a circle
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in each st around, join with ss in the 3^rd ch
Rows 2-4: Repeat row 1
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Working in unused loops of the base chain, connect yarn with sc to any stitch. Sc around

Ruffle:
Ch 3, working blo, 2 more dc in same space as join, *3 dc in ea st around, join with ss in the top of ch 3.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Upper cuff:
Row 1: Join in any st. Working flo, ch 3, dc in ea st around, join with ss.
Row 2: Working in both loops, Ch 3, dc in ea st around, join
Rows 3-6: Rep row 2
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Trim (optional):
Reverse sc in same or contrasting color around all edges.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Repeat for 2^nd cuff

Gauge:
4 sts and 3 rows of hdc = 1.25 inches x 1 inch
Result: 20-21″ brim

Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sts – stes
ss – slip st
hdc – half double crochet
blo – back loop only

Instructions:
Ch 2 and hdc 8 into 2nd loop (8 sts)

Work in blo from here on out.

Row 1: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st, join with ss in 1st st (16 sts)
Row 2: *1 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (24 sts)
Row 3: *2 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (32 sts)
Row 4: *3 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (40 sts)
Row 5: *4 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (48 sts)
Row 6: *5 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (56 sts)
Row 7: *6 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (64 sts)
Row 8: *7 hdc, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from * around, join (72 sts)

At this point, the hat should be approximately 3.5 inches from the center of the hat to the current row. If it doesn’t, keep making rows and do an increase of 6 sts for each row.

Row 9: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join
Rows 10-21: Repeat row 9
Row 22: Ch 1, place stitch marker, ss in each st around, join.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: The slip stitch brim makes the beanie hug at the bottom. If you don’t want this, fasten off after row 21.
