A week ago, I think I mentioned that I had received an on spec assignment due around Labor Day.

If not, well…I did.

For various reasons, I’ve had a difficult time getting started on it. It’s a short-ish article, so I didn’t think it would take long to do once I got it started.

I was right.

I started it yesterday afternoon. I finished it tonight. I’m not saying it’s completely finished. I’m saying the bones are down and now I need to let it rest overnight before I look at it again.

I’ve also asked someone else to look at it. Between the two of us, I’m sure I can get it into submittable shape by tomorrow evening. Hopefully I’ll get it submitted tomorrow and they’ll accept it.

Hey, I can dream/hope, right?

Goings-On in My World

I’m still on a mission. I’m still querying a potential $80/day in an attempt to be able to go full time freelance. Sometimes it seems like slow going, but I’m working on it. Nothing worth having/doing ever happens overnight.

Soon, I’ll have a new article coming out on WritingForDollars.com. I’ll post here when it’s available.

There’s this little place not far from where I live called Stratford’s Little Jelly Factory. I queried Oklahoma Today magazine about it. I sent the letter via ground mail. I got the reply one day last week via e-mail. They want a shorter story than what I originally proposed, but that’s OK! My deadline is Labor Day so it’ll possibly be in the November/December issue. This is on-spec, so it’s not a done deal, but I’ll take it!

I think I have the book proposal for Confessions of a Fat Chick ready to send out. The blog for that now has over 10,000 hits! I’ve also bought the domain, which will point to the blog by tomorrow evening.

It seems like there was something else as well, but I can’t think of what it might be. I’ll edit the post later if I happen to think of it.

UnArt?

Ever since I moved last September, I’ve been looking for some word art to hang in my office. Things like “Dream,” “Create,” “Imagine,” “Believe,” and so on. I haven’t been able to find any that I like, though. It’s all too…perfect.

Yesterday, I worked in Ardmore with Mom. When we were done, we went to Hobby Lobby. I decided I wasn’t going to buy anything, but in looking around, I thought if I can’t find what I like, why not paint it myself?

So I bought the supplies: a set of acrylic paints, paint brushes, and two packages of 2 canvasses.

I started them this morning. Two of them are done. I waited for my brushes to dry before doing another one. The other two were finished this afternoon.

“Create” – yellow, orange, 2 reds, bold black lettering

“Dream” – 2 blues, purple, bold black lettering

“Imagine” – light gray, yellow, light green, white script

“Believe” – red, brown, peach, purple, yellow script

I like the way they look but they’re FAR from perfect, which is how I wanted it. You can see brush strokes and some canvas showing through.

It’s fun! After this, I might have to buy some more canvasses. Do a series of punctuation.

I’m on Helium

That just sounds kind of wrong, doesn’t it? *s*

I still need to do my about me page, but I uploaded an essay last night.

I actually think I might use them for essays since I honestly have no idea where to market them for the most part.
