So Close!

You know what I said before about 4 or 5 more chapters?

Forget it.

The end of this chapter is it.  Well, then an epilogue, which will be short.  But the actual last chapter is #20.

Holy guacamole!!!

I’m excited.
I’m nervous.
I’m actually kind of dreading it.

But then the edits and revisions and additional research begins.

Oh, and the writing of the synopsis.

It’s looking like I actually will have this in presentable shape for the conference in May.

(Yikes!  *Commence spazzing.*)

EDIT:  It’s DONE!

Drumroll Please!

I am officially at 50,000 words on “Kiernan’s Curse.”

I am half-way through chapter 18.  I think there will be about four or five more chapters.

This is going well.  I am almost to the point that starts the actual climax of the story.  It’s beginning to look like my hope of finishing the rough draft before May isn’t just a pipe dream.

Wow

I think I just finished chapter 16.

Well, the rough draft version anyway.  I think by the time I tweak it, it’s going to be pretty intense.  It already is anyway, but ya know.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to check in tomorrow or not.  I’ll be leaving sometime around noon to go to Ardmore with Mom until Friday.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get the work I’m taking to do done in short order (HA!) and be able to work on Kiernan’s Curse more than I’ve been able to.

(I can dream, can’t I?)

Another Update

It has been a while since I last updated on how things are going with “Kiernan’s Curse.”

I’m in the middle of chapter 15.  My word count at the moment is around 43,000.

I’ve decided something, though.

I’m going to get rid of the prologue.  It isn’t really needed.  It’s purpose was to help me get into the story.  It did that very efficiently.  There is nothing vital in the prologue.  The information in there is scattered through the book so far.  It’s irrelevant now.

I think I’ll wait and finish the whole thing, though, before I actually cut it out.

Doubts

So last night for some reason, I started asking myself if I really know what I’m doing here.  If I can really pull this off and finish “Kiernan’s Curse.”

And the answer is?

No, I don’t really know what I’m doing.  But, yes, I can pull it off and finish.  :)

The good thing about not knowing what I’m doing is twofold, as I see it.  (1) It won’t be formulaic.  (2) I can research what I need and therefore know what I’m doing.  lol.

Case in point:  Battle strategy.  Ay yi yi!  lol

But I’ll pull through and it’ll work out.

It Is to Laugh

Today was a meeting of the local writers’ group here in town.  Once all was said and done, I was showing my setup for working on “Kiernan’s Curse.”

One friend said, “Organized people should be shot.”

Oh, believe-you-me, that is the ONLY thing I am remotely organized about.  My workspace is a shambles, not to mention the rest of the room.  It is one of those things where you really must declutter, clean up, and organize, but you don’t do anything because you don’t know where to start and you’re paralyzed by that.

Not to mention, you’re also scared that if you do clean up, you’ll take away all the creative energy built up in books, knick-knacks, printouts, and (in my case) beads and jewelry tools.

Bear with me a little while longer.  Perhaps eventually I’ll become one of those organized lunatics.

It is to laugh.  :)

Good Omen for Kiernan & Myself?

A week or two ago, I bought the April issue of Writers Digest.  In the Inkwell section, there is an interview with a romance editor, Rose Hilliard.

I didn’t read the whole thing yet.  I skimmed it.  But this stood out to me:

“…I think there’s room for growth in the sexy historical romance….”

I think “Kiernan’s Curse” could qualify as “sexy historical romance.”

:)

It’s Real!!

This morning, I was ready to get busy on transcription but decided to do one last e-mail check.

There was one with a heading of “Writers Colony Info.” It’s a request for a bio and picture for their directory.

I had to laugh at my reaction. I did a little dance in my chair. It’s actually real! lol.

I just have to hold out for June.

Irish Blessings

If you visit the Kiernan’s Curse blog daily between now and St. Patrick’s day, you will be treated to a different Irish blessing every day.  The first one is posted now.

Rough

The words are not coming very easily tonight.  Each one seems like pulling teeth.

Kiernan himself is cooperative.  For that matter, so are the other characters.  So what’s the problem?

Something very big is going to be happening soon.  (Yeah, I have a few of those times in this book so far.)  This one will lead to the climax and resolution.

I know it needs to happen.

I know what will happen.

I don’t know how to get from here to there.  Until I can get it figured out, I guess I’ll just write filler between now and then.  It can be cut later if it needs to be.
